In a recent interview with Revolver Magazine, Andy Biersack of Black Veil Brides talks about the band’s fanbase and the upcoming Golden Gods Awards. The band is up for two Golden Gods awards, head over here to vote for them!

REVOLVER: Golden Gods-wise, you guys are up for an award in the Most Devoted Fans category. What makes your fan base so special?

I think, obviously, we are noted for having a very dedicated fan base. There is a visual, aesthetic part of it where you have the makeup and the costumes. The devotion of the BVB Army, with its very big online presence, is amazing. We’ve been fortunate from the very beginning. It was something that was really able to spur on our career.

When it came to record labels and management, people didn’t give a shit until the fans sort of forced our way into places. You can’t deny a band whose fans are so dedicated. You can’t deny a band whose fans will literally do anything to see them win the awards. We’re very appreciative to the fan base. That mutual feeling of appreciation is something that really helps.

Do you think part of it might stem from early on, especially with your “lyrics of the disenfranchised”? Do you think they struck a chord with fans who were preached to with pop music and that made you guys a great alternative?

Absolutely. The message of the band goes hand in hand with the fan base. We never made attempts to say we were anybody’s role model or the be-all-end-all of what people should look up to. We have always just been very open about the fact that we have difficulties and we are messed-up people just as our fans are. We kind of wanted to do it together with them. With that being said, the feeling of comradery between us and the audience has really always been there.

Will excess breed success? Black Veil Brides go to extremes with Wretched and Divine: The Story of the Wild Ones, their massive new rock opera, complete with its own feature-length film.

“I wonder sometimes: Is it cool to hate Black Veil Brides?” asks Jake Pitts, lead guitarist for the band.

It’s a fair question. After all, the band holds pride of place as heavy metal’s Public Enemy Number One. Tarted up with face paint and eyeliner, wrapped in skintight leathers and topped with razor-chopped piles of jet-black hair, Black Veil Brides epitomize the type of glammed-up, visually over-the-top rock act that has always been a lightning rod for criticism, from Kiss and Alice Cooper to Mötley Crüe to Avenged Sevenfold.

But to the Brides—singer Andy Biersack, Pitts, co-guitarist Jinxx (née Jeremy Ferguson), bassist Ashley Purdy and drummer Christian Coma—the example set by their forebears is assurance that they can weather any critical storm that comes their way.

“Nikki Sixx is a friend of ours,” says Jinxx. “And he told us, ‘You guys get a lot of love, you get a lot of hate. But you know what? Mötley Crüe got the same hate back in the day. You’re going through exactly what we went through when we did Shout at the Devil. So just keep doing what you’re doing.’

“And he’s talking about Mötley Crüe, man! They wound up doing pretty well for themselves, you know?”

As it stands, Black Veil Brides aren’t doing too bad for themselves, either. The band’s mix of pile-driving riffs, soaring pop hooks and dual-harmony lead guitar lines has helped it bridge the chasm between vintage and new metal styles and, in the process, strike a chord both with older and, in particular, young audiences.

Andy Biersack recently explained the central theme of the new LP (expected out January 8, 2013) to BBC Newsbeat.

“The story follows this group of outcast leaders, rebels, through their journey to defeat this fear, which is an acronym for every and all religion,” Biersack told BBC Newsbeat.

“There’s this unified church government. Their sole goal is to remove all science and creativity and original thought from society, yet de-evolve things a little bit and make it darkness. The idea of fear and shadows play a large role and how people can escape from their own fears,” added Biersack.

Black Veil Brides are also set to release a full-length film by the name of Legion of the Black, which according to NME, is due for cinematic release in the States next month, before hitting the UK in February 2013.

The band will hit the road for what they’re calling “The Church of the Wild Ones Tour” beginning Jan. 4 in Las Vegas at the Hard Rock Café. The North American trek will be broken up into two legs, with the entire month of January filling the first leg and the second leg running Feb. 17-March 8. The group will announce their special opening act on Dec. 8, and info about the group’s ticketing and VIP packages will be announced shortly via their websites and social networking pages.

Black Veil Brides recently announced that their latest effort, ‘Wretched and Divine: The Story of the Wild Ones,’ would arrive in stores in January. Pre-orders for the album are expected to start around Halloween.

In addition to their 2013 touring, the band has booked an appearance at the California Metalfest in San Bernardino on Nov. 24.
